OUR PEOPLE
Hi-Line Capital Management (HLCM) is an independently-owned investment management firm based in Watertown, SD.
HLCM was founded in 2009, became a registered investment advisor with the SEC in March 2010.
HLCM serves institutional clients (e.g. healthcare organizations, non-profit foundations), high-earning/high net-worth private clients, and small businesses.
Michael Anderson
President and Chief Investment Officer
Michael Anderson serves as President and Chief Investment Officer and is responsible for investment strategies and research. Anderson started a career in institutional investment management in 1997 serving on a committee of a multi-hospital investment pool. In 2008, Anderson transitioned to a Chief Investment Officer role on a full-time basis for a non-profit healthcare system. Anderson graduated from Concordia College with a Bachelor of Healthcare Finance and Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota with a Master in Healthcare Administration.
Matt Roby
Vice President and Financial Advisor
Matt Roby serves as Vice President and Financial Advisor to private and institutional clients, and is responsible for trading, supporting portfolio management, and serves as the Chief Compliance Officer. Roby comes to HLCM after serving nearly five years as the Watertown City Attorney. Prior to that, he worked in private law practice, in the insurance industry, and in the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office. Roby received degrees in accounting and economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2007 and a juris doctorate from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2010. He is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota.
Ethan Smith
Director of Accounting and Reporting
Ethan Smith serves as the Director of Accounting and Reporting and is responsible for portfolio accounting, data integrity, reporting for clients, investing research, and trading support. Smith comes to HLCM after four years in financial reporting at a large biofuels company. Prior to that he spent time in public accounting working as an auditor. He is a licensed CPA in the state of South Dakota. Smith graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting, and a Master of Professional Accountancy.
Jennifer Pletan
Director of Communication and Special Projects
Jennifer Pletan serves as the Director of Communication and Special Projects and is responsible for communication with clients, project management, business development, and research support. Pletan comes to HLCM after working over 20 years in healthcare leadership. Pletan graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration and from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota with a Masters in Healthcare Administration.
